Following the success of our FT1 wooden headphones, FiiO began searching for new types of wood to bring their unique appeal to more people. FiiOs search led them to a “purple treasure” purpleheart wood. This wood is exceptionally hard and captivates with its beautiful color. Over time, its hue gradually transforms into a deep purple.

Purpleheart has been used for instruments, furniture, and other items for decades. The wood is stabilized in a hot oven and cut with precision. It is then stored for months in a dark room, where it slowly “develops” its fascinating wine-red color.

This wood then undergoes a final, intensive process of selection, cutting, CNC carving, polishing, and varnishing before it is ready for the final product with a final colour and depth that will age perfectly over time.

Custom Designed Damping Tube

Inside the FT13, a U-shaped damping tube cleverly uses the air inside the headphones to tune the sound. The design of this tube has been carefully optimized to lower the resonance frequency of the cavity, resulting in deeper, higher-quality bass.

The new massive 60mm driver cone is made from a blend of materials, including fibers of birch wood. This unique property allows us to precisely tune the resistance and stiffness of the diaphragm during manufacturing to achieve our desired sound goals.

Using the same traditional paper-making process as for the FT1 cone, the raw materials are processed into pulp through soaking, steaming, and beating.

During this process, lighter and harder carbon fiber threads are added to increase the stiffness of the diaphragm and reduce unwanted breakage, improving detail in the high frequency range and even wool fibers are added. The diaphragm is then baked and molded to a thickness of only 0.1 mm - incredibly thin and light.

High Tech 60mm Drivers

The FT13 features a 25mm CCAW voice coil imported from Japan with an ultra-thin 0.035 mm wire and a lightweight KSV body. These components significantly reduce the moving mass of the diaphragm, resulting in faster sound reproduction and less unnecessary reverberation. This leads to speed, responsiveness and helps improve the resolution of the headphone.

The drivers consist of a hard dome and flexible surround, featuring a W-shaped diaphragm design inspired by speaker diaphragms. Compared to the driver diaphragms typically used in headphones, this design increases the effective area of the diaphragm by over 25%.

This helps with both efficiency and audio quality. The headphone is in the sweet spot of 32 ohms and a pretty high efficiency so its easy to drive and will work great with portable devices, headphone amps and home stereos. The larger driver also makes it easier to get lifelike dynamics and punch into the music, for more of that 'right there' feeling.

Superb Headphone Cable

The headphone cable included with the FT13 is of an incredibly high quality and with flexible accessories. The wire is a blend of Furukawa copper and silver plated OFC copper, with a total of 8 strand and 1000 wire conductors. It is a braided design with good flexibility, remains soft in use and looks fantastic. The quality is a nice compliment to the finish and quality of this headphone.

The plug is swappable - 4.4mm BAL and 3.5mm SE are included. There are also two adaptors, an XLR adaptor that fits over the 4.4mm plug and a 6.35mm adaptor for the 3.5mm plug. All popular connections are covered!

There is also a hard shell carry case included.

Swappable Ear Pads

Two types of ear pads are included, both are designed to be breathable and durable in daily wear. Inside the ear pads is a low-density, slow-rebound memory foam that neatly wraps around your curves and natural shape for excellent long term comfort.

The pads made of natural lambskin have a velvety smooth surface that is also breathable, sweat-resistant, and easy to clean. In terms of sound, these ear pads deliver detailed highs, clear and clean mids, and fast bass.

The suede ear pads have a matte texture, are durable and flexible, yet cool and breathable. In terms of sound, these ear pads enhance the bass, add richness to vocals, and enhance the sense of atmosphere.
